Making the World’s Best Chocolate Bar
Here at The Supplant Company, we’re setting a goal to create what we think could very well be the world’s best chocolate bar. It’s a journey, and while we’re only just getting started, we wanted to share some details about our ingredients, and our mission.
Here are some elements we rely on for premium results.
Sugars from Fiber — A Revolutionary New Ingredient
Cocoa is naturally bitter, which is why chocolatiers add various types of sugar to it. But refined sugar, especially the kind that comes from sugarcane, isn’t sustainable because it requires vast amounts of land and water resources to grow even just a small amount. In fact, as much as 80 percent of each sugarcane plant is left over, after just 20 percent of it becomes refined sugar. That’s an inefficient, and unsustainable, amount of unused plant fiber.
We make our chocolate bars with our revolutionary sugars from fiber, a brand new category of food which comes from agricultural fiber that would otherwise go unused. By unlocking the carbohydrate sugars and fiber naturally found in the stems, stalks, leaves, and cobs of grain plants — parts of the plant that we can’t otherwise eat — we access an abundance of nutrition that would otherwise go to waste. By using sugars from fiber instead of refined sugars, we can provide a healthier alternative that uses less of the earth’s resources.
Top Quality Partnerships — An Essential Element
To develop the Supplant chocolate bar recipe, we partnered with multiple-Michelin-starred Chef Thomas Keller. Known for his uncompromising commitment to quality ingredients, Chef Keller adapted his own renowned chocolate recipes to incorporate sugars from fiber. The result is rich and creamy milk chocolate, and boldly delicious dark chocolate, that you can feel good about eating.
Better for You, Better for the Planet
Sugars from fiber is better for you, because it has less than half the calories of sugar, causes a lower glycemic response in the body compared to glucose, and is prebiotic, so it’s good for gut health. But it’s also better for the planet. By using agricultural fiber that would otherwise go unused, we make the most of every acre of farmland, reducing the need for deforestation. And by making edible food out of something humans couldn’t previously digest, we’re helping solve both a food crisis and the problem of wasted resources.
At The Supplant Company, we are committed to making the world more sustainable, one delicious treat at a time. By using sustainably sourced sugars from fiber, we make a premium chocolate bar that is not only good for you, but good for the planet, too.
